These two question types catch good students, and always for the same reason: the trap option is the one that sounds most like the original. Restatement wants the same meaning in different words — not similar words in a different order. And the irrelevant sentence is usually the one that is true, and interesting, and about something slightly else.

Same Meaning, Different Words

Two of the trickiest YDS and YÖKDİL question types are restatement (finding the option that means exactly the same as the given sentence) and the irrelevant-sentence question (spotting the one sentence that does not belong in a paragraph). Both require a sharp sense of meaning and unity rather than vocabulary alone. In the UK, academic writing heavily penalises 'waffle'—unnecessary or off-topic information—so mastering this skill is excellent preparation for studying or working abroad. In restatement tasks, the correct answer is a faithful paraphrase that preserves every element, whereas distractors subtly add, drop, or flip details. In the irrelevant-sentence task, four sentences build a single coherent idea while the fifth wanders off-topic; your job is to feel that break in the logical flow.

YDS ve YÖKDİL'in en zorlayıcı soru tiplerinden ikisi, anlamca en yakın cümleyi bulma (restatement) ve paragrafın akışını bozan cümleyi bulma sorularıdır. Her ikisi de sadece kelime bilgisinden ziyade keskin bir anlam ve bütünlük duygusu gerektirir. İngiltere'de akademik yazım, gereksiz veya konu dışı bilgileri (waffle) ciddi şekilde cezalandırır, bu yüzden bu beceride ustalaşmak yurtdışında eğitim görmek veya çalışmak için harika bir hazırlıktır.
