Getting Around Britain
Britain has one of the oldest and most extensive public transport systems in the world. The London Underground, famously known as 'the Tube', opened in 1863! Whether you are navigating London, Manchester, or Edinburgh, knowing how to ask for directions and buy tickets is essential for daily life. British people are generally very polite and helpful when you are lost, so never be afraid to ask. Always remember to start your question with a friendly 'excuse me'!

"Mind the Gap!"
If you travel on the London Underground, you will hear a famous announcement: "Mind the gap!" This phrase warns passengers to be careful of the space between the train door and the station platform. It was first recorded in 1968 because drivers were tired of shouting the warning themselves. Today, it is an iconic symbol of London, and you can even buy t-shirts, magnets, and mugs with the phrase printed on them!
