Clear, Not Perfect
Pronunciation is the fourth criterion you're scored on in the IELTS speaking test, but here is the relief: you absolutely do not need a perfect British or American accent. Examiners reward clarity, not a 'native' accent, meaning your Turkish accent is completely fine. What lifts your score is mastering the music of English: stressing the right words, letting your voice rise and fall, and linking words smoothly so you don't sound flat and robotic. A clear speaker with an accent always beats a 'perfect' accent that's hard to follow. Embracing natural rhythm is the secret to sounding confident.

The Rhythm of English: Stress and Weak Forms
English is a stress-timed language. We emphasise CONTENT words (the ones carrying meaning) and say the FUNCTION words quickly and quietly, often reducing them into 'weak forms'.
Avoid the Robotic Trap
✓ Stress the meaning-carrying words for natural rhythm.
✗ Don't stress every single word equally (e.g., I. AM. GOING. TO. THE. SHOPS).

A Nation of Accents
Did you know that regional accents in the UK change incredibly fast? You can drive just 30 miles down the road and hear completely different vowel sounds, slang, and intonation patterns. From the sing-song rhythm of Geordie in Newcastle to the flat vowels of Brummie in Birmingham, diversity is celebrated. This is why IELTS examiners are trained to assess your clarity, not your specific accent. Even native British speakers sometimes struggle to understand each other!
